The new year has arrived and with it, a fresh start.
We are told that the new year should come with a new set of goals and resolutions, but we all know by now that new year’s resolutions are a bit of a scam. Doesn’t it feel like we could all use a softer approach these days? Instead, we could think about small goals and little improvements – things like saving space at home. Doesn’t that seem like the more realistic expectation for 2024?
It feels easier to focus on nice, bite-sized goals for 2024. Things like saving space, decluttering rooms, and slowly creating a more comfortable living space. But what does that look like?
Simplify the Space
For most of us, we have spent more time at home over the last two years than expected. And for many people, that meant looking around and wondering why there’s so much stuff everywhere.
To pass the time, people have begun to go through every cupboard and closet, and have spent time and money updating and simplifying their space.
And for the cabinet bed industry – that’s been a great thing! Lots of people have discovered that they want to have a more efficiently laid out home and living space. What’s the piece of furniture that takes up the most space but that you also can’t live without? The bed, of course.
Thankfully, there are some great space saving options when it comes to beds. These options are especially great for people living in small spaces like studio or bachelor suites; however, they can also be used for second bedrooms or even for the primary bed.
Each option has benefits and drawbacks, but they all do help save space – so let’s take a closer look at the choices.
Cabinet Beds
More and more people are discovering the clever and beautiful designs of cabinet beds. These well-made pieces of furniture have a small footprint and blend into any room, especially for those living in small apartments that are looking to make the most of their space.
Cabinet beds are well made with high quality materials, wood, and finishings. The fold up into a beautiful and inconspicuous cabinet that is sturdy enough to hold a big, flat screen tv. They come in an array of colours, designs and finishes; so, they can be easily incorporated into any style design and existing décor.
Cabinet beds are also designed with function in mind. With a few simple movements to open, slide, and pull the platform and tri-fold mattress out, the furniture is transformed from cabinet to bed in seconds. This makes it a great option for seniors or anyone who is intimidated by or unable to use a fold away bed or a Murphy bed.
For those who want to save space and add a chic piece of furniture to their home, a Cabinet bed might be the right purchase to start 2024 off on the right foot.
Murphy Beds
Murphy beds are another option for a space saving mission. These beds are vertically transfixed to the wall, and are pulled down into their horizontal form when it’s time for bed. They can be a great option as well for anyone looking to eliminate a traditional bed set up in their home.
These beds have a few things going for them, too. They are stylish and add an element of cool to any apartment. Often they will come already installed in an apartment and will simply require the tenant to add their own mattress.
One of the drawbacks is that Murphy beds can be heavy and cumbersome to turn into a bed; therefore, they may not work for everyone. They are also more or less permanently installed and can not easily be moved. They do, however, sit nearly flush against the wall when they are not in use to save space.
What’s Next?
Of course, there are other options like futons and hide-a-beds, too, with their own benefits and pitfalls – but they are not great for long term sleeping. Of the options available, it’s probably no surprise that we love and recommend the cabinet bed for its sturdy design, gorgeous look, and the fact that it is a truly a great option for sleeping well throughout the night. And that’s really what we all need to start 2024 off on the right foot!
